1 Membraneless microfluidic alkaline electrolyzer stack for hydrogen production Membraneless microfluidic alkaline electrolyzer stacks are fabricated via an additive manufacturing technique, featuring micron-sized grooves (2.9 cm * 1 cm * 0.05 cm) and a parallel arrangement of multiple units. The flow-by mechanism of the stack allows the electrolysis to happen, and the convective bi-phasic flow leads to gas separation. At a flow velocity of 80 mL/h, the stack can generate a current density of ~997 mA/cm2 at 2.5 V applied potential. The hydrogen gas generation ability of the stack is measured to be ~60 mL/h. The thermodynamic stability stack can be maintained even at a temperature of 80 degree C. Link
2 Photonic Chip-based Spectrometric Biosensor A photonic chip-based spectrometric biosensor has been developed for rapid, ultra-sensitive, and label-free detection of biomolecules. This cutting- edge device boasts a design with minimal optical components, integrating microfluidics and a photonic sensing chip to detect spectral shifts induced by interactions between biospecimens and functionalized sensor surface. Using our in-house laser interference lithography technique, we have established a scalable method for fabricating photonic chip sensors. The versatile sensing element can be bio-functionalized to target a wide range of biomolecules, from small proteins to whole cells, including pathogenic bacteria. Demonstrating its potential, the photonic crystal sensing element successfully detected a highly pathogenic bacterium Psudomona aeruginosa at a remarkable limit of detection of 100 CFU/ml in laboratory tests. This groundbreaking technology is poised to revolutionize early disease diagnosis and treatment and has been transferred to industry UNNINO Pvt.Ltd, for commercialization. Link

1 Development of Optical Proteinuria Sensors using Hydrogel Gratings An optical sensing system for proteinuria diagnosis is developed. Detection of urine protein concentration can give accurate prognosis for numerous medical conditions like kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, heart failure and some cancer diseases. Urine samples under test is probed by changes in structure of hydrogel grating (HG). This gives indirect indication of quantity of protein present in urine. HG is developed using soft lithography, which is scalable. Further, sensing system is digital and can be easily integrated with Internet of things (IOT) platform. The technology is further developed by RefractX Pvt Ltd for commercialization purposes. Link
